Back to School? How About Back to the Beach?
When the kids hit the books, it’s time for bookings
By Kasia Kneblewski
If you’ve got kids, it’s not unlikely you’re starting to plan your next year’s vacation now, in autumn. That’s because, with fresh school schedules in hand and organization on the brain, many parents are finally able to deliberate real dates and destinations... without being distracted by carefree kids on summer holidays!

Not sure where to start? Not to worry. With the help of a CaribbeanWay destination specialist and concierge, family vacations are easy to plan. We understand the kind of place that will make both you and your children happy (whether they’re 5 or 15) and it’s our pleasure to take care of the details for you, making your vacation planning as easy as possible. To get started, take a look at a few of our highly recommended villa destinations for your next family getaway.
St. John: Natural haven
When it comes to convenience, St. John rules. The small peaceful island, much of which is covered in national parkland, offers a wide range of activities to suit families of all ages, including beaches, hiking and some of the Caribbean’s best snorkeling spots. Getting there is a breeze with regularly scheduled short flights departing from many major American hubs. And if that’s not enough, St. John is a U.S. Virgin Island, which means there’s no need for currency exchange and you’ll enjoy the comfort of English-speakers everywhere you go.
Kids are welcome at Blue Skies villa on Great Cruz Bay; the 4 bedroom villa’s pool is a great place for them to play while mom and dad soak up stunning views of nearby St. Thomas. If the beach is a priority, gather friends and kids at the 6 bedroom Paulette. The beautiful Fish Bay home features a pool, Jacuzzi and gym, and the sea is just five minutes away.
St. Martin: Cultural escape
When it comes to combining a cultural retreat with tropical pleasures, St. Martin does it best. This small, somewhat sleepy island (technically half an island, shared with the Dutch St. Maarten side) is a great place to introduce your kids to a different language and much touted French cuisine in between excursions to one of many gorgeous, and still quiet, white-sand beaches.
Stay at the exquisite Le Belevedere villa, and delight in its extraordinary beachfront location on Baie Rouge. Located in the stylish Terres Basses community, the 4 bedroom Belle Fontaine features an open design which kids of all ages love for its easy pool access and cool breezes.
Tortola: Rare retreat
The largest of the BVI’s, Tortola still exudes that off-the-beaten-path charm which is increasingly difficult to find. Devoid of glitzy shops and busy streets, it’s the place where your family can discover sea turtles, search for shipwrecks and just spend time together. Bonus: teens mesmerized by the pirate craze will be enchanted by the island’s claim to fame as a retreat for Long John Silver and Bluebeard.
Situated on 5 private acres, the 5 bedroom Gun Point, will give you a feel for the island’s British ancestry and architecture; private access to the beach and snorkel gear will likely mean the kids live in their swimsuits for the duration of your stay. Older youth (8+) and adults will have a hard time tearing themselves away from Towanda, a new 3 bedroom villa boasting some of the most spectacular panoramic views on the island.
ABC’s of Vacation Planning
To make your vacation even more rewarding, include your kids in the planning stage. It’s a wonderful way to stoke curiosity about different aspects of your destination – its location, foods and culture – and will make your trip a lot more fun and more memorable. |
