Beach Lover’s Paradise
Anguilla, Virgin Gorda, St. Bart's
By Heather Whipps

Who doesn’t like the beach? A day of sunning, reading and napping on the sand is a great way to recharge the batteries and forget life’s every day stresses. There are some people though that love the beach, though, salivating at the very thought of being able to lay a towel out on the warm sand. Easy to spot, they’re the ones with the buffet of sunscreens and oils, their own umbrella and stacks of books dedicated solely to beach reading. We understand the obsession and know that when many of our guests think Caribbean villa holiday they’re really thinking of seven days spent on the beach.

To please that bunch, what follows is a list of our favorite beach-lover’s destinations. Pack your best mindless fiction and check out these worthy spots:

Anguilla

Zenaida Beach & Tennis Estate: The name gives this seven-bedroom villa away right off the bat. A deserted half-mile of Anguilla’s famous powdery sand lies below the villa, accessible via a private stone walkway from its terrace. A fully-lit tennis court is the other half of the estate’s title.

Westgreen: This elegant three-bedroom villa doesn’t sit directly beachfront, but it is only about a half-mile inland from one the best on the island. With the softest sand around, Rendezvous Bay has been called Anguilla’s most perfect strolling beach. You can see it, along with the outline of St. Martin, from Westgreen’s elevated terrace.

Beaches beyond: beach selection doesn’t get much better than on Anguilla, where thirty-three of the whitest, softest stretches of sand in the Caribbean compete for your attention. Shoal Bay East and Barnes Bay are two of the more spectacular.

Virgin Gorda

Sea’s Song: This three-bedroom home sits on a promontory that actually separates two different beaches, both just a one-minute walk away. If casual and alfresco beach living is your thing, Sea’s Song is right for you. Be sure to search for its secluded meditation platform.

Rambutan: Take twenty or so steps from your back door and you’re on Nail Bay, a soft and secluded beach that’s great for snorkeling, kayaking (the villa provides these) or just laying about. Dolphins and turtles can be spotted from Rambutan’s sweeping terrace.

Beaches beyond: Virgin Gorda is home to a very unique beach known as the Baths—a jumble of colossal boulders through which visitors can snorkel and wade. For something quieter, try Savannah Bay.

St. Barts

Playa Dorada: This casual five-bedroom villa is great for families who want to be close to the sand—Baie de St. Jean is just a short walk away. When you retire to your terrace, the views over the water are still fantastic.

La Desirade: Though set back a few minutes on a hillside, La Desirade has all the makings of a quintessential St. Barts beach villa. Enjoy views from your freeform infinity pool and, when it’s time to hit the sand, St. Jean is just a few minutes walk.

Beaches beyond: St. Barts is known for its sultry and, ahem, liberal beaches. While beaches aren’t designated nude, don’t be surprised to see plenty of topless sunbathers sharing towel space. Anse a Colombier is another one of its best.

Pink is the New Beach

The white sand found throughout the Caribbean is what most people picture a tropical beach to be, but pink sand is also common in some places, especially the Bahamas. Pink sand is formed when the red shells of tiny sea creatures are broken up and ground into a powder by strong surf.
