Real Estate: The Battle of the BVI’s
Virgin Gorda and Tortola go head-to-head to win your heart
By Laurie Dyke & Erin Bresnahan
Although grouped together, the two main British Virgin Islands of Tortola and Virgin Gorda are very different and most people will swear by their favorite. If you’re on the fence, below is a case for each as well as some properties to whet your appetite!
Tortola is the largest of the BVI’s and also the most developed. The airport is connected via a bridge to Beef Island with direct flights coming in from San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Kitts and St. Maarten, making it the more accessible of the two. Tortola offers its residents a busier and more traditional lifestyle with more street markets, shopping, restaurants, attractions, and nightlife than Virgin Gorda. Many people also go here to visit one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, Cane Garden beach.
Virgin Gorda, on the other hand, is much quieter than its larger neighbor. Its main lures are the world-famous Baths, where volcanic boulders have created small pools of water, its idyllic, uncrowded beaches. You won’t see throngs of tourists here, and the island’s unassuming charm has won the hearts of many.
Take a peek below at some of what Tortola and Virgin Gorda have to offer to the discerning buyer:
