The Caribbean’s Most Romantic Beaches
Imagine strolling hand-in-hand down these sandy stretches
By Heather Whipps
What is it that makes a beach romantic? A lot of it has to do with personal taste, but a few standard qualities never hurt when it comes upping the tropical romance quotient: nice views, seclusion, and calm waters for skinny-dipping, perhaps. Whatever your preference, we’ve compiled a short list of some of the Caribbean’s most romantic beach and villa combinations.

The Baths, Virgin Gorda
As the island’s biggest attractions, The Baths can get quite busy if your timing’s not right. When they’re quieter, however, it’s sheer bliss, with tranquil pools of warm water caught between the huge boulders brought here by volcanic activity. You can explore the grottoes hand in hand or snorkel in the water just off the sand. Nearby, ultra-exclusive villa Sol Y Sombra is a romantic destination unto itself, with five elegant suites and a perfect location for gazing at the views over The Baths and Virgin Gorda’s other spectacular southern beaches.

Grace Bay, Turks & Caicos
Grace Bay is a testament to its name, sweeping majestically along the island of Providenciales’ northern coastline. Famous for its many downy soft beaches on offer, Grace Bay is the Turks’ best and has been cited by some travel specialists as one of the finest on Earth. Though not always empty, the impossibly blue-clear waters off Grace Bay are enough to put you in a quixotic state after a few hours stretched out here. Pleasantly beached-out, head back to Best View villa for a slice of the views from the other side of the island – no less worthy and also ripe for intimacy.

Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman
Nearly the entire length of Grand Cayman’s western flank is rimmed by Seven Mile Beach, a dazzling stretch of soft coral sand and plenty to do. If activity strikes your fancy, rent some gear and try your hand at snorkeling or jet-skiing, but there’s still no shortage of calmer nooks where can rest undisturbed. Search one out, lay a towel, and love will be in the air in no time flat. Stay at the nearby villa Coral Reef for an envious beachfront location. If a little more privacy is desired, the beaches of the north coast tend to be more sparsely populated; Bellagio villa, a comfortable and well-equipped five bedroom home, lies right on the beach in peaceful Cayman Kai.

Harbor Island, Bahamas
There’s secluded and then there’s deserted, the latter best describing the stretches of beach on Harbour Island in the Bahamas. Part of the chain’s famous "Out Islands", this small cay is known for its pink sand (colored by finely crushed coral and shells) and serious lack of footprints. It’s great for a day trip from busier Eleuthera, where Balara Manor sits on its own sliver of waterfront land. The five-bedroom villa is very private and boasts amazing views of the sea.

Rendezvous Bay, Anguilla
Picking just one beach on Anguilla as most romantic is a tough task indeed, as the island’s sole purpose almost seems to be acting as anchor for the incredible beaches that surround it. Rendezvous Bay – a fitting name, considering the category – is located on its southern coast and is Anguilla’s longest beach. Island tourism proclaims it a great spot for hand-in-hand strolls at sunset, but we urge you to judge for yourself. Westgreen Villa isn’t too far, a three-bedroom home with a private pool overlooking the water and views of St. Martin.

St. Lucia is for Lovers
Though not known particularly for its beaches, which can be black and hard-packed, St. Lucia is constantly tops on the list of the world’s most romantic honeymoon destinations due to its gorgeous scenery. |
