Romance: Find your ideal island hideaway

It isn’t easy to qualify what makes a place romantic. These destinations are sometimes quieter, may be more secluded or just have that intangible quality that screams L-O-V-E. Whatever the reason, renting a villa in one of these locales is like a match made in heaven. Villas in the Caribbean are designed to offer the utmost in secluded relaxation, certainly helped by the surroundings and the fact that everything here is yours to enjoy, no interruptions. Private pools are standard and personal staff attending to the homes, very common. Our concierge department can also boost up the romance factor by organizing torch lit dinners on the beach, massages by the pool, or merely pointing you in the direction of the closest, most secluded beach.

 St. Martin
Don’t be fooled: St. Martin is a lively island with plenty to do and an energetic nighttime vibe. It’s great for couples who like to party together—maybe share a drink or two at the hippest beach bar—before retreating home. It does count a number of uber-romantic beaches along its shores, especially on the quieter French side of the island. After a night on the town, a stretch out together by the lapping ocean waves will be just what the love doctor ordered. One-bedroom villa Les Palmiers is a great hideaway for two, located on quiet Baie Rouge and just a few minutes from town. Its pool sits just feet from the sea and is the perfect place to watch the sun set.
 Bequia
It’ll be hard to find a quieter, more peaceful island than Bequia, one of the Caribbean’s southern Grenadines. Historically a quaint fishing outpost, its five thousand residents are accustomed to welcoming visitors and are known to be warm and friendly. They’ll happily steer you towards the islands’ typically dreamy beaches, where more than ten sunbathers constitutes a crowd. There are things to do here, but most romantics prefer to take advantage of Bequia’s languid pace of life and do not much of anything. New Eden House is a great headquarters for that endeavor, lying directly on the beach at Friendship Bay. This three bedroom villa is fully staffed and is designed with simple, luxurious touches.
 Nevis
The natural beauty of Nevis is enough to make anyone swoon, so it should be no surprise that we’ve counted this idyllic island among our most romantic. It seems like a throwback to the Caribbean of old, with quiet strolls the order of the day. The majestic signpost of Nevis Peak, its deep green slopes usually shrouded in a puff of white cloud, backdrops most scenes here and a soft sand beach is never too far away. In between you’ll find Paradiso #5, a four-bedroom villa walled for extra privacy near the island’s famed Pinney’s Beach. Balinese architecture and lots of tropical foliage make the home especially relaxing.
 Jamaica
No locale better embodies the sultry, hedonistic vibe of Jamaica than Negril, a fun-loving and passionate stretch of beach on the country’s south shore. Seven Mile Beach is one of Jamaica’s most revered lengths of sand, and offers up all sorts of daytime diversions—watersports, restaurants and shopping—to bookend the inevitably sultry nights this place invites. You can even get in the mood with a visit to the beach’s cordoned-off nude area. Dreamwalk is set just back from the sizzling sand in a private complex of just five luxury villas. This three-bedroom villa has a private Jacuzzi and is tended to by a full staff—including chef and barman.
I Do by the Seashore
Nowhere are destination weddings more popular than in the Caribbean, where couples can regularly be spotted exchanging vows barefoot on the beach. If you’re interesting in tying the knot down south, just be sure to double-check each island’s requirements, because details vary widely. |
