To the Point: Trip Report from Virgin Gorda
Baraka Point like having a little resort to yourself
By Heather Whipps

A group of CaribbeanWay's sales team recently made their way down to the British Virgin Islands for a stay at Baraka Point , a five-bedroom villa on Virgin Gorda that’s always been one of our favorites. The objective was to get a feel for the way our clients would holiday there, enjoying everything from its gourmet cuisine to private spa services. A tough job, but they were certainly up for the challenge. The unanimous reaction at week's end: this is one place they wouldn't hesitate to send even the pickiest guest.

Our team was taken care of from the minute they arrived at Baraka Point, which is fully staffed including a chef (more on that later). They also noticed, getting to the villa, that pictures can't really do the property justice.

"The grounds are a lot more lush than they seem in photos, and are a big part of the villa's privacy factor that our guests love so much," said Wade Manricks, CaribbeanWay villa specialist. "And when you walk around at night, automatic lamps light up to mark the paths." Baraka Point is especially private because its rooms are divided between four separate pavilions. These house its uniquely designed bedrooms—including the divine master Kerala Suite, which has its own plunge pool—and one, the largest, contains the living and dining areas, as well as the adjoining pool deck. A newly-built, separate spa and wellness pavilion is also on site. The villa's layout makes it great for families traveling together (connecting kids' rooms are an added bonus) or a group of couples who want some alone time too. It also gives guests the sense they've rented their own mini-resort.

"Baraka Point is the total experience," remarked sales manager George Alexandrou. "From the chef services to the massages and yoga, it's an all-sensory holiday for the body. You can also do nothing at all."

The staff at Baraka Point plays a huge role in crafting that total experience. In addition to the support staff, the villa's mainstays are a chef and spa therapist couple plucked from high-end hotels around the world and who now live on the villa grounds. One prepared food that may as well have been served in three-star Michelin restaurants (our staff were never even tempted to eat out), while the other led yoga sessions on the beach. And as hosts and managers, they impressed our socks off.

"In everywhere that I've been, I've never met staff members so personable, so professional or who added so much to the enjoyment of my holiday," said Manricks. "They were absolutely fantastic."

Other elements that stood out at Baraka Point:

  • The really exotic interiors, colorful and comfortable
  • Great sunsets from the west-facing deck and pool
  • A music system that linked the entire complex, so everyone could listen in no matter where they were
  • The beach just a five-minute walk south from the villa, which was consistently deserted
